NYC Department of Education
In-school learning started on October 1. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio says that the coronavirus positivity rate in the city must stay below 3% for schools to remain open. The city will also carry out random testing.
On September 17th, the mayor announced that in-person learning is being pushed back to October 1st, so school will start all-remote on Monday, September 21st. More here.
On September 1st, the mayor announced that the first day of school 2020 was being pushed back to Monday, September 21st, with orientation days taking place September 16-18. More here.

NYC iSchool PA Meetings
The PA meets once a month on a Wednesday at 6:30 pm. For now, meetings will be held via Zoom. We have board meetings as well as meetings that are open to the entire parent body, so please join us!
The PA Speaker Series features experts sharing insights on areas of interest to the parent body, like college admissions, student social-emotional health, social media, academic support, and more.
We have been lining up speakers based on the results of the parent survey from July 2020! Here is the planned 2020-21 monthly meeting schedule, with speakers being added as they’re confirmed, and more info about them on the Speaker Series page.

PA Fundraisers
Fundraising events: Throughout the school year, the PA typically holds multiple fundraising events, like the spring auction. We are looking at how to continue these events this year, and keep raising needed funds to support the iSchool as well as keep engaging the parent body.
Targeted giving: In our summer survey, many parents expressed a preference for targeted giving, including buying needed items on teacher wish lists. We’ve been coordinating with the SLT, administration, and faculty on this plan. More to come soon!
Spiritwear: The PA sells spiritwear—clothing items and other merch with the iSchool logo—throughout the year at events like first-year orientation and back-to-school night. We are now selling spiritwear online so you we can all keep showing our school pride!
Other PA Events
Usually the NYC iSchool PA holds multiple house parties for parents to meet and chat, hosted by parents around the city. In August 2019, the PA held the first-ever first-year class picnic to welcome the new families, and give incoming 9th graders and their parents an opportunity to meet and start to get to know each other. The PA is actively looking at expanding on these popular events, especially given the high level of interest indicated in responses to our summer survey, but we are proceeding with exceeding care due to the coronavirus pandemic. Please stay tuned!
